Attendance at school is compulsory from Prep to Year 6. However, if a child is absent from school through illness, or some other valid reason, parents/carers are requested to inform the school prior to any absences and provide an explanation (preferably before 9.15am) via:

All students who arrive at school after 8.55am MUST report to the Administration Office and receive a late slip, this will then be handed to the classroom teacher.

If you know in advance that your child/ren will be absent at a future date, parents/carers are required to notify the teacher and the office.

If a child is collected from school prior 2.55pm, the parent/carer collecting the child must sign have them signed out at the office before taking the child from the school. This requirement is a safety precaution.

Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds at any time during the school day without permission from their parent/carer and the Principal.

SMS Notifications

If your child/ren are absent from school without an explained reason, a nominated parent/carer will receive an SMS notifying them of the absence. Parents/carers are required to either reply to the SMS with a reason for the absence (do not include any emojis or pictures as these cannot be read), or contact the office on 3421 6222.

Exemptions from compulsory schooling

What is an exemption?

Every parent/carer of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled at and attending school.

Parents/carers can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot (or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances) attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.

If your child is exempted from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling for the period of the exemption.
The school Principal is not responsible for providing an educational program to your child during the approved exemption period; however they may provide advice on other educational options available.

Who decides to grant or not grant an exemption?

Decisions about exemptions are made by the Principal.

Applying for an exemption

You are encouraged to discuss with the school or region whether an application for exemption is a suitable option. The school or region can provide you with an application form for an exemption. It is important that supporting documentation and evidence are attached to the application. The exemption needs to be applied for well in advance of the student absence.

When a decision about the exemption has been made, you will be informed in writing whether or not the exemption has been granted and if any conditions have been imposed. If you are not satisfied with the decision made, you can make a submission for the decision to be reviewed.

Where and application for exemption has not been made or has not been granted by the Principal, their absence from school will be recorded in accordance with the 'Roll marking in state schools' procedure.
