Music is an important part of the school's Arts program.

Students are able to engage with music through:

  • the classroom music program delivered by the specialist music teacher,
  • the instrumental music program with instruction in strings (Years 3-6) and woodwind, brass and percussion (Years 4-6), and
  • the school choir program.

Instrumental Music

The Queensland State Schools Instrumental Music Program is a comprehensive tuition program in which students learn orchestral or band instruments. It provides an extra dimension to a school music program ensuring that educational outcomes are maximised for all students taking full account of individual circumstances such as their location, gender, socioeconomic situation, language and cultural background, and any impairment and special talents they may have.

There is a selection process; tests for musical ability are conducted and students are invited to participate in the instrumental music program.

The selection of students for the instrumental music program is based on the following criteria:

  • musical ability
  • evidence of perseverance
  • interest of parents and indication of support
  • ability to purchase instruments (a limited number of school instruments are available for loan)

Choir

The Choral Program provides all students with a positive choral experience. From the most inexperienced singer through to highly accomplished well-trained performers, students are able to be part of a progressive Choral Program that caters for vocalists of all levels.

Students do not have to audition for the choirs that include the premier Junior (Years 3 & 4) and Senior (Years 4-6) choirs. Student participation in the choral program requires a full year commitment.

School choirs are taken by our music teachers and students are exposed to a range of musical styles. Members of the choirs are expected to be involved in school functions.
