Swim School/Swim Club

At Holland Park State School, Squad Training and Learn to Swim continue through Autumn & Winter with a modified program to fit in with winter sport.  The pool is heated to a warm 29 degrees and hot showers are available.

It is important for children to have continuity in their learning to progress/improve their swimming skills.  When children have long breaks between swim training/lessons, expecting them to jump back in the pool and be swimming at the same skill level or higher is unrealistic.  Swimming is a hard skill to master, there are a lot of different skills within a stroke that need to be learnt eg. breathing, stroke, kicking, body alignment – all to be mastered at the same time.

It is a myth that children catch colds from swimming through winter.  It is a fact that colds are caught through airborne bacteria eg. Sneezing, coughing.  Children should come prepared with warm clothes for before and after training/lessons and utilize the hot shower after lessons/squads.

Competitive Swimming

Children who are interested in competitive swimming are encouraged to continue training through winter.  The Short Course swim season is held in Autumn/Winter each year.  Short Course swim meets are a good opportunity for children to compete in 25m pools.
